Heifer International І Tractorization for Africa Innovative Capital for Agri-Mechanization & Youth Employment
The Tractorization for Africa project is being funded by Heifer international in partnership with Hello Tractor to provide mechanization services to smallholder farmers in Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda. The Tractorization project Pay As You Go (PAYG) Model has served over 21,000 small-holder farmers in need of mechanization services and created opportunities in terms of direct jobs for over 300 youths.
Our role was to evaluate the project’s impact through qualitative and quantitative research. We engaged with over 300 small-holder farmers and 26 tractor owners in Nigeria and Kenya through interviews, surveys and focus group discussions.
Over 75% of the farmers surveyed have been able to expand their farming operations and plant more crops due to the availability of tractors. The farmers also acknowledged that the PAYG program has significantly increased their income.
