Supporting Healthy Environments | Market Clean Up | Six locations | Lagos State
Many of the local markets in Lagos State are plagued with the issue of poor sanitation as a result of the volume of the daily human activities The obvious waste within the markets is compounded by poor hygiene practices among its users, as well as limited access to a structured waste management system.
On December 3 and 10, 2015, IKEDC volunteers with support from Kasher team cleaned 6 markets (Aswani, Ilupeju, Alade, Jankara, Akowonjo, and Sabo Ikorodu) as well as sensitized the traders on the importance of hygienic practices and clean environment. The project engaged LAWMA for the sensitization and PSP contractors for waste disposal. Over 30,000 direct beneficiaries were reached. Almost 40 tonnes of waste was generated and properly disposed across the six markets.
